The Nairobi National Museum is a great tourist site for those who would like to know about Kenya's pre-history. A 20-minute drive or walk from the Nairobi CBD, it is open everyday - including public holidays and weekends - from 08:30 am to 05:30 pm.
The Museum was initially started by a group of naturalists under the East Africa and Uganda Natural History Society in 1910. In 1929 the colonial government set about the museum at Museum Hill where it was officially launched on 22nd, September 1930. Initially it was called the Croydon Museum but after Kenya gained its independence it was renamed to the National Museum of Kenya.
On October 2005, the museum underwent a major modernization to expand it. It then reopened its doors 2 years later on the June of 2008 as the Nairobi National Museum.
