It is a minor game refuge that is technically a part of Maralal Township's frontier. Buffalo, zebra, and impala coexist peacefully with each other on the hillside covered in cedars and in the acacia scrubland below. Elephants regularly descend from the northern, forested slopes. Leopards are lured in a little forest not distant from the lodge, and guests can view them safely from a blind that has been built. To get to Maralal, one must travel across untamed terrain in this dry northern region of Kenya. Once there, one is rewarded with stunning vistas of untamed lunar landscapes all around.
